Sometimes, another pair of eyes is what’s needed. Eyes that aren’t familiar with your website, and possibly neither with you or your business.

But ideally not just any old pair of eyes or other, but eagle eyes belonging to someone who knows what they’re doing with websites. Eyes that see things from a different perspective to you.

I scrutinise your website, both from the perspective of a typical user, as well as that of a nerd who digs a little deeper, probing and poking about.

You then receive your website check as a detailed, written report. Your website check not only contains statistics and info, but also my valuable concrete recommendations and suggestions on how you can get the very best out of your website.

I examine your website thoroughly, paying particular attention to the following points:

  • Appearance and first impressions: Does your website look modern or old-fashioned? Is it appealing or unappealing? Is the colour scheme harmonious, or does it look more like the aftermath of a rampage in a paint factory?
  • Optimisation for mobile devices: Does your existing website work properly on all screen sizes? Assuming it works on them at all. This is extremely important today.
  • Content structure: Is the content clearly structured, so that visitors can find what they’re looking for? Is the customer journey smooth or bumpy?
  • Legal situation*: Does your website comply with the GDPR? And what’s the situation with cookies, the legal notice required in some countries (where applicable) and copyright?
  • Loading time and technical stuff: How does your website load? Lightning fast, acceptably or like a tiny photo over a dial-up connection in the 1990s? What other technical data has room for improvement? Is the connection secure? Are there broken links or missing images?
  • Your visibility: How are your Google rankings, and therefore also your visibility? How are the trends developing in this regard? Improving, stagnating or worsening? How’s your search engine optimisation? Great or neglected? How many other websites link to yours, and what sort of websites are they?
  • Miscellaneous: Does your website contain spelling/grammar mistakes and typos? (I often spot the things that other people don’t!) Does your website use jargon? If so, is it appropriate for your visitors, and understandable for them? Are there any inconsistencies?
  • Your website check, as a detailed, written report full of info, statistics, explanations, recommendations, suggestions and other food for thought. How long is your report? It depends on the size of your website and the number of suggested improvements!

Your website check is not an automated process. Nor do I outsource it to anyone. It’s all ‘digital manual work’ that I undertake myself. To do so, I use a range of commonly used tools, including my eyes and brain.
